The choice is really yours. Ideally one of the male players in your campaign will play Kyle Marston, but a campaign can work perfectly well with Kyle as a Non-Player Character.
We do prefer that males play male characters, and females play female characters.
We know that there is very little information to inform the choice players make about which character to select. This lack of self knowledge and the characters' efforts to solve the mysteries of their past are part of the fun of Reborn.
You can access a starting shell of the character cards of the roster of available characters, from which you can decide who to play. However, these have a lot of gaps in the information about the character. Some of missing information may only be revealed to the player who is playing the character as the game proceeds, and some information may never be revealed.
We know the prospect of selecting a character with so many unknowns may be too much for some players to bear, the following gives you at least some sense of the potential characters from the initial available selection:
Mersa Liam Bral - Organiser and systems operator, a military officer, but not a fighter or confident in fieldcraft - ♂ Carl Edwards Danar - Talker, negotiator, manipulator and a charmer - ♂ Rhys Bedwyr Davies - Thinker, a social 'lubricant' and medico - ♂ Terri Kate Fennel - Talker, negotiator and sensual manipulator, with surprising talents - ♀ Raymon Sinan Guerdes - IT and engineering expert, with good people skills - ♂ Samuel Harper Jansen - IT, engineering and science whiz, who is socially awkward - ♂ Marcus Damien Lamar - Special forces soldier - ♂ Kyle Marston - Action, combat and a natural leader - ♂ Andrea Fir Mason - Timid but stable jack-of-all-trades - ♀ Dylan Gayre McAndrew - Physical, a worker, and confident in the wilds - ♂ Duncan Matthew Panter - Special forces soldier - ♂ Adara Paige Seymour - Action, combat and systems operator - ♀
During rounds 4 - 6, a player who joins an existing campaign will have the choice of some different characters, the same principles as above apply, but you will have to make your decision without a summary of those characters.
All of the characters have particular strengths, special skills, aptitudes and abilities. The journey of any of these characters will be fun, suprirising and interesting.
